How it all began
In 1953, George (Nick) Van Patten founded Nation-Wide Builders in Des Moines, Iowa. He hired Betty Anderson, who later became his wife, and together they built one of the largest retail operations in the country. Their success led to the incorporation of ADI in 1961.
Through hard work, resiliency, and an unwavering commitment to the building industry, G. Nick laid a foundation that would last generations. His children and grandchildren remain an integral part of the company today, proud to carry on the legacy he started.
From a single location on NE 14th Street in Des Moines, ADI has grown to over 50,000 square feet of warehouse space at our Des Moines home on East 2nd Street, with additional locations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska — serving Midwest contractors for over 70 years.
